Carry out following conversions:

(i) Ethanol to ethane

(ii) Ethanol to Ethanoic acid

 

Answer

1. Ethanol can be converted to ethane by using conc H 2 SO 4

2. Ethanol can be converted to ethanoic acid using an oxidizing agent like alkaline KMnO 4 or acidic K 2 Cr 2 O 7 .
