Answer:

  • Hydrogenation is an addition reaction in which hydrogen atoms get added across double/triple bonds  
  • when an unsaturated hydrocarbon is treated with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst like nickel
  • Therefore, hydrogenation converts unsaturated hydrocarbons into saturated hydrocarbons .
  • It is used to prepare vegetable ghee from vegetable oils.
