Explain the nature of the covalent bond using the bond formation in CH 3 Cl.

The structure of CH 3 Cl is as follows:

A covalent bond is formed by sharing of electrons.  

In CH 3 Cl, 

  • Carbon shares it’s 3 valence electrons with Hydrogen
  • And 1 remaining valence electron with with chlorine
  • To form 4 covalent bonds
