Why do yeast cells grow in sugar solution but not in water?

 

Answer:

  • The yeast is a tiny, unicellular, non green plant (fungus). It reproduces asexually by the process budding.
  • On the yeast parent cell, buds appear on the outside of the cell wall .
  • The yeast gets its nutrition from the sugar substance and so the energy , thus it grows and produces buds.
  • But, it fails to multiply in water due to lack of energy .
