What should we ask when a price changes?
  • Markets are not machines with fixed equilibria. They keep changing.
  • The next time a price changes (books, vegetables or sports equipment), ask:
  • Is supply changing?
  • Is demand shifting?
  • Is the market moving towards equilibrium or away from it?
  • Is government intervention helping or hurting?
  • Asking these questions is how we decode real markets.
