- This connects back to the challenge of misinformation - being informed is how a citizen defends against it.
- Civic responsibility includes:
- Respecting others' rights
- Using social media responsibly
- Abiding by laws and rules
- Appreciating the country's diversity
- Participating in activities that strengthen unity
- Through community service, teamwork and organised activities , you learn the importance of participation, responsibility and service to the nation .
- Note that only one of these needs you to be 18.
- Four of the five you can do today.
- Following school rules is the same habit as abiding by laws - practised small.
- Speaking in class discussions and listening to others is deliberation and respect for diverse opinions .
- Voting in a class or house election is participation .
- Keeping the school clean is care for public property .
- A student who does these becomes a citizen who does them.
- Pick something local and specific - waste in your lane, an unsafe crossing near the school, water wastage.
- Find out who is responsible for it - the Panchayat, the Municipality, the school.
- Gather accurate information before speaking, so your case cannot be dismissed.
- Work as a group - organised voices are heard, single complaints are not.
- Examples: join an NSS or Scouts activity, run a clean-up, fact-check three forwarded messages before sharing, help someone apply for a scheme they qualify for.
- Afterwards, write what changed and what you learned - that reflection is the real assignment.
