How are deforestation and erosion associated with each other? Explain.

Show Answer Hide Answer
  • Tree roots bind the soil , and leaves slow down rain and wind.
  • When forests are cut, the soil is left bare and unprotected .
  • Rain washes away the loose topsoil and wind blows it off — erosion increases.
  • So deforestation speeds up erosion , causing loss of fertile land, silting of rivers, and more floods and landslides.
