Sample Space Sample Space is the set of all possible outcomes Each possible outcome is called an element of the sample space The Golden Rules of a Sample Space It must include everything: If an outcome is possible, it must be on the list. No duplicates: Even if there are 5 red balls in a bag, you only list "Red" once because the type of outcome is just "Red". Notation: We use the capital letter S for Sample Space. We put the outcomes inside curly brackets { } Sample Size: This is simply counting how many items are in your list. We write this as n(S). EXAMPLES OF SAMPLE SPACE 1. RAIN / MATCH S={ Rain, No Rain}}n(S)=2 Scoreboard S = {Win, Lose, Draw}, n(S)=3 2. TOSSING ONE COIN Experiment: Tossing once. S={ Heads (H), Tails (T)}, n(S)=2 3.
