Ex 7.1, 1 (i) Rank the following events on a scale from 0 (Impossible) to 1 (Certain). Label each event: Impossible, less likely, equally likely (even chance), more likely, certain. Give reasons why you gave each event its ranking. (i) The next Monday will come after Sunday. The days of the week follow a permanent cycle Monday is defined as the day that immediately follows Sunday. Therefore, there is a 100% chance of this happening. So, this event has Rank: 1 Label: Certain event Ex 7.1, 1 (ii) Rank the following events on a scale from 0 (Impossible) to 1 (Certain). Label each event: Impossible, less likely, equally likely (even chance), more likely, certain. Give reasons why you gave each event its ranking. (ii) It will snow in Mumbai in July. Mumbai has a tropical coastal climate, and July is right in the middle of its hot, humid monsoon season. The freezing atmospheric temperatures required to create snow physically cannot exist in Mumbai during July. Therefore, there is a 0% chance of this happening. So, this event has Rank: 0 Label: Impossible event Ex 7.1, 1 (iii) Rank the following events on a scale from 0 (Impossible) to 1 (Certain). Label each event: Impossible, less likely, equally likely (even chance), more likely, certain. Give reasons why you gave each event its ranking. (iii) An elephant will walk through your classroom today. Unless your school is in the middle of a wildlife sanctuary with no walls, elephants live in the wild or in zoos. Practically and logically, a massive wild animal will not wander into a school building and fit through a classroom door. Therefore, there is 0% chance of this happening. So, this event has Rank: 0 Label: Impossible event Ex 7.1, 1 (iv) Rank the following events on a scale from 0 (Impossible) to 1 (Certain). Label each event: Impossible, less likely, equally likely (even chance), more likely, certain. Give reasons why you gave each event its ranking. (iv) You will greet at least one friend at school tomorrow. Assuming it is a normal school day and you are attending, you will be surrounded by your classmates and friends. It is highly probable that you will say hello to at least one of them. However, it is not a "1" (Certain) because unforeseen things could happen—you could fall sick and stay home, or school could be canceled! So, this event has Rank: Closer to 1 (e.g., 0.8 or 0.9) Label: More likely
