Area of any QuadrilateralTo find area of any general quadrilateral, We split it into triangles and add their area (1) STEP 1: DEFINE THE QUADRILATERAL 2 STEP 2: ADD THE DIAGONAL (AC) Draw the general quadrilateral with vertices and sides defined. DECOMPOSE INTO TWO TRIANGLES: & 3 STEP 3: ANALYZE 4 STEP 4: ANALYZE 5 STEP 5: SYNTHESIZE & CALCULATE TOTAL AREA OF QUADRILATERAL ABCD = AREA( ) KEY FORMULA AREA Let’s do an Example Find area of quadrilateral ABCD Given Length of diagonal = d = 10 cm Length of Perpendicular dropped on AC h1 = 5 cm & h2 = 3 cm Now, Area of ABCD = 𝒅/𝟐 (h1 + h2) = 10/2 (5 + 3) = 10/2 × 8 = 5 × 8 = 40 cm2 Area of quadrilateral = 40 cm2
