Area of ParallelogramLet’s Consider a Parallelogram ABCD, with height AX To find Area of Parallelogram, we use two methods Converting it into Two Triangles and finding Area Transforming it into a Rectangle Let’s Transfrorm it into a Rectangle We converted Parallelogram ABCD into Rectangle AXBY The process of cutting a figure into pieces and rearranging them to get a different figure of equal area is called dissection Since Area of Paralleogram ABCD = Area of Rectangle ABXY And, Rectangle ABXY has sides Base and Height We can write Area of the parallelogram ABCD = Area of the rectangle ABYX. = AX × XY Since DX = CY, We can write DX + XC = CY + XC CD = YX Thus, our formula for Parallelogram becomes Area of the parallelogram ABCD = AX × CD Generally we can write Area of Parallelogram = Base × Height Generally we can write Area of Parallelogram = Base × Height
