Example 4 (Page 66) 2 pumps can fill a tank in 18 hours. How much time will it take to fill the tank if we add 2 more pumps of the same kind?Given that, 2 pumps can fill tank in 18 hours We need to find much time would it take if we add 2 more pumps So, Total pumps are now = 2 + 2 = 4 Let the Time taken be y hours Now, we draw a table Now, As Number of pumps increase Time taken to fill the tank will decrease So, they are in Inverse Proportion So, we write numbers as 𝒙_𝟏 𝒚_𝟏 = 𝒙_𝟐 𝒚_𝟐 2 × 18 = 4 × 𝑦 (2 × 18)/4=𝑦 9 = 𝑦 𝒚 = 9 So, it will take 9 hours
