Example 1 (Page 63) If 5 workers can move 4500 bricks in a day, how many workers are needed to move 18000 bricks in a day?Given that, 5 workers can move 4,500 bricks in a day We need to find how many workers are needed to move 18,000 bricks a day Let Required Number of workers be x Now, we draw a table Now, as Number of workers increases, Number of bricks to be moved also increases So, they are in Direct proportion So, we write numbers as 𝒙_𝟏/𝒚_𝟏 = 𝒙_𝟐/𝒚_𝟐 5/4500=𝑥/18000 (𝟓 × 𝟏𝟖𝟎𝟎𝟎)/𝟒𝟓𝟎𝟎=𝒙 20 = 𝑥 𝒙 = 20 So, it will take 20 workers
