Doubling a square using PaperThis is a fun activity you can try at home! The Steps Take two identical squares (Square 1 and Square 2). Keep Square 2 whole. Cut Square 1 along both diagonals. You now have 4 triangles. Arrange those 4 triangles around Square 1. The Result You have built a new, larger square. Since you used exactly two squares' worth of paper (the whole one in the middle + the cut-up one around the edges), the new large square must have double the area of a single square.
