The General Rule (for Tiling)For a ๐ ร ๐ grid, and a 2 ร 1 tile we can make general rules Is tiling possible if If both ๐ and ๐ are even: Yes. (Area is even). You can tile all rows horizontally or all columns vertically. If one is even and one is odd: Yes. (Area is even). Strategy: If you have a 3ร4 grid, tile along the even side. You can view it as three rows of length 4. Since 4 is even, you can tile each row perfectly. If both ๐ and ๐ are odd: No. Reason: An odd number ร an odd number = an Odd number. You cannot cover an odd area with even-sized tiles.
