Constructing an EyeWe want to construct these Eyes We can do it freehand (without any tools), but what if we want to make it symmetric? Using a compass and ruler, we make a figure like this Basically, We make a base horizontal line XY We find points A & B such that AX = AY = BX = BY To construct the eyes, we open compass to AX distance and make an arc, and do the same from Point B But, how do we find Points A & B? Let’s look at how we construct them, step-by-step 1. Construct line segment XY of any length 2. Taking X as center, and radius more than 1/2 XY, draw arcs on top and bottom of XY 3. Taking Y as center, and radius same as before draw arcs on top and bottom of XY 4. Points where the arcs intersect is A & B 5. Join AB 6. Mark point O where AB intersects XY Here, AB is called the perpendicular bisector of XY It is Perpendicular to XY, AB ⊥ XY O is the mid-point of XY Let’s look at its definition and prove triangles congruent
