Solutions to CBSE Sample Paper - English Class 11

The Government has legalised the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. Write a debate in about 120-150 words either for or against this decision.

  • Marijuana can have medical benefits, such as relieving pain, nausea, and epilepsy.
  • Marijuana can also have harmful effects, such as impairing memory, judgment, and coordination.

Answer as written by the student:

Good afternoon, respected principal, teachers, and my fellow students. Today, I am going to speak against the topic: The Government has legalized the use of marijuana for recreational purposes.

I believe that this decision is a mistake and a threat to the health and safety of our society . Marijuana is not a harmless substance, but a dangerous drug that can have harmful effects on the brain, body, and behavior. Marijuana can impair memory, judgment, and coordination, which can lead to poor academic performance, risky decisions, and accidents. For example, marijuana can affect the ability to drive safely, increasing the risk of crashes and injuries. Marijuana can also cause addiction, dependence, and withdrawal symptoms, which can interfere with the normal functioning and well-being of users.

Marijuana can also have negative consequences for the environment and the economy. Marijuana cultivation can damage the land, water, and wildlife, by causing deforestation, soil erosion, water pollution, and habitat loss. Marijuana legalization can also reduce the tax revenue and job opportunities from other industries, such as alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceuticals, which can have a negative impact on the economic growth and development.

Therefore, I oppose the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes. I think that the government should focus on preventing and reducing the use of marijuana, rather than promoting and regulating it. I think that the government should educate the public about the risks and harms of marijuana, and enforce the laws and penalties for its possession and distribution. I think that the government should also provide treatment and support for those who are addicted or dependent on marijuana, and help them to recover and rehabilitate.

Thank you for your attention .
