Energy resources :

  • Energy is required for all activities.
  • Energy can be generated from fuel minerals like coal, petroleum, natural gas, uranium and from electricity.
  • Energy resources can be classified as conventional or non conventional sources.
  • Conventional sources include : Firewood, cattle dung cake, coal, petroleum, natural gas and electricity ( both hydel and thermal).
  • Non conventional sources of energy include : solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, biogas and atomic energy.
  • More than 70% energy requirement is met by firewood and cattle dung cake in rural households in India.
  • However, the supply of both of these is decreasing due to decrease in dense forest area.
  • Using dung cake is discouraged too because it consumes most valuable manure which could be used in agriculture.
