Compare the powers of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Answer:

-lock-

Answer to be written in the exam:

  1. Any ordinary law needs to be passed by both houses. But in case of a difference, the final decision is taken in a joint session in which the members of both houses sit together. The view of the Lok Sabha is likely to prevail in such a meeting.

  2. Lok Sabha exercises more powers in money matters.  Once the Lok Sabha passes the bill, the Rajya Sabha cannot reject it.

  3. The Rajya Sabha can delay it for only 14 days or suggest changes. The Lok Sabha may or may not accept it.

  4. The Lok Sabha controls the Council of Ministers.  Only a person who enjoys the support of the Lok  Sabha is appointed the Prime Minister.

  5. If the Lok Sabha Passes a” no confidence” motion than the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister have to quit. The Rajya Sabha does not have this power.
