What idea do you get when you hear the term connective tissue?

A connective tissue is responsible for connecting different parts of the body physically or by transporting substances from one part to another.

For example, ligaments connect 2 bones together and tendons connect muscles to bones and hence they are connective tissues.

  • The cells of connective tissue are arranged loosely
  • They are embedded in a matrix
  • Matrix is a jelly like substance that is fluid, dense or rigid

The nature of the matrix depends on the function of the particular connective tissue

Now let us discuss the different types of connective tissues one by one.
