Why is the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid an oxidation reaction?

 

Answer:

The conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid is an oxidation reaction because in this, an oxygen atom is added to ethanol by oxidizing agent like alkaline potassium permanganate or acidified potassium dichromate   to form first ethanal and then, ethanoic acid .
