Ex 10.1, 6 State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms. (i) 1, 100 1, 100 Since 1 and 100 have no variable. ∴ They are like terms Ex 10.1, 6 State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms. (ii) –7x, 5/2x–7x, 5/2 𝑥 −7x has variable 𝑥 𝟓/𝟐 𝑥 has variable 𝑥 −7𝑥 and 5/2 𝑥 have same variable x ∴ They are like terms. Ex 10.1, 6 State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms. (iii) –29x, –29y –29x, –29y –29x has variable x –29y has variable y –29x and –29y have different variables ∴ They are unlike terms. Ex 10.1, 6 State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms. (iv) 14xy, 42yx14xy, 42yx 14xy has variable xy 42yx has variable yx i.e. xy So, 14xy and 42yx have same variable xy ∴ They are like terms Ex 10.1, 6 State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms. (v) 4m2p, 4mp24m2p, 4mp2 4m2p has variable m2p 4mp2 has variable mp2 4m2p and 4mp2 have different variables ∴ They are unlike terms. Ex 10.1, 6 State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms. (vi) 12xz, 12x2z212xz, 12x2z2 12xz has variable xz 12x2z2 has variable x2z2 12xz and 12x2z2 have different variables ∴ They are unlike terms.
