Triangles inside RectanglesNow, our book has asked us some questions Which triangle has a greater area: ∆ XDC or ∆YDC? Here, in both cases, We have same base CD XE is height of ∆ XDC, YE is height of ∆ YDC Since XE ⊥ CD, and YE ⊥ CD – both are same with value equal to AD = BC Thus, in both triangles, we have same base and height So, both triangles have the same area Thus, in both triangles, we have same base and height So, both triangles have the same area Find the area of ∆ XDC. Since XY ⊥ CD and AD ⊥ CD – they are both equal ∴ XY = AD = 4 Now, In ∆XDC, Height = XY = h = 4 Base = CD = b = 5 Area of ∆XDC = 1/2 × b × h = 𝟏/𝟐 × 5 × 4 = 5 × 2 = 10 square units Now, let’s do another question from the book
