Question 1 – Page 57 Viswanath is experimenting with a spice mix powder. He makes the powder by grinding 8 spoons of coriander seeds, 4 red chillies, 2 spoons of toor dal, and 1 spoon of fenugreek (methi) seeds. Puneet has only 2 red chillies in his kitchen. But he wants to make spice mix powder that tastes the same as Viswanath’s spice mix powder. How much of the other ingredients should Puneet use to make his spice mix powder? Viswanath's original ratio is Coriander : Chillies : Toor Dal : Fenugreek is 8 : 4 : 2 : 1 Now, Puneet has 2 red chillies instead of 4 So, our recipe is 4 ÷ 2 = 2, thus 𝟏/𝟐 of the original recipe Thus, all ingredients must be divided by 2 Now, Coriander = 8/2 = 4 Chilies = 4/2 = 2 Toor Dal = 2/1 = 1 Fenugreek = 1/2 = 0.5 Thus, Puneet's new ratio is 4 : 2 : 1 : 0.5.
