Example 1 (Page 58) To make a special shade of purple, paint must be mixed in the ratio, Red : Blue : White :: 2 : 3 : 5. If Yasmin has 10 litres of white paint, how many litres of red and blue paint should she add to get the same shade of purple?Original ratio of Red : Blue : White is 2 : 3 : 5 Thus, White paint in this ratio is 5 liters Since we need 10 liters, i.e. 5 × 2 = 10 Thus, we multiply original recipe by 2 (i.e. 2 × ) Now, Red = 2 × 2 = 4 Blue = 2 × 3 = 6 White = 2 × 5 = 10 Therefore, We need 4 liters of Red paint, 6 liters of Blue paint, 10 liters of White paint to make that shade of purple
