The General Rule (for Tiling)For a π Γ π grid, and a 2 Γ 1 tile we can make general rules Is tiling possible if If both π and π are even: Yes. (Area is even). You can tile all rows horizontally or all columns vertically. If one is even and one is odd: Yes. (Area is even). Strategy: If you have a 3Γ4 grid, tile along the even side. You can view it as three rows of length 4. Since 4 is even, you can tile each row perfectly. If both π and π are odd: No. Reason: An odd number Γ an odd number = an Odd number. You cannot cover an odd area with even-sized tiles.
