(a) (+6) + (+4)(+6) + (+4) Since both are positive numbers, we cannot cancel anything Counting the number of tokens Thus, (+6) + (+4) = +10 Question 1 (b) - Figure it out (Page 257) Complete the additions using tokens. (b) (–3) + (–2) (–3) + (–2) Since both are negative numbers, we cannot cancel anything Counting the number of tokens Thus, (–3) + (–2) = –5 Question 1 (c) - Figure it out (Page 257) Complete the additions using tokens. (c) (+5) + (–7)(+ 5) + (–7) We cancel + and – pairs, and the remaining number left is our answer Thus, (+ 5) + (–7) = –2 Question 1 (d) - Figure it out (Page 257) Complete the additions using tokens.
