Using Tokens for additionNow, For positive numbers For Negative numbers we use tokens to signify numbers Thus, we can write Now, let’s add numbers using tokens Add (+ 5) and (– 3) (+ 5) + (– 3) We cancel + and – pairs, and the remaining number left is our answer Thus, (+ 5) + (– 3) = +2 Add (+ 5) and (–8) (+ 5) + (–8) We cancel + and – pairs, and the remaining number left is our answer Thus, (+ 5) + (– 8) = –3
