Case 1: Dividing by a Number > 1 Problem: 6÷3=2 2 2 2 6 is split into 3 groups of 2 . Result: The Quotient is Smaller The quotient (2) is smaller than the dividend (6). Case 2: Dividing by a Number < 1 Problem: 6÷1/4=24 How many 1/4 s fit into 6 ? ( 4 in each whole) Result: The Quotient is Larger The quotient (24) is much larger than the dividend (6).
