Chapter 3 Class 7 A Peek Beyond The Point - Case Based Question Worksheet 1 by teachoo Chapter: Chapter 3 Class 7 Maths – A Peek Beyond Point Name: _____________________________ School: _____________________________ Roll Number: _____________________________ Case Study 1: The Athlete's Training Log An athlete is analyzing her 100 m sprint times from four trials to improve her performance. Her times are: 11.25" " s,11.09" " s,11.16" " s, and 11.09 s . The Olympic qualifying time is 11.05 s . ( 1 Mark) What was her fastest time recorded in the trials? (1 Mark) What is the range of her times (the difference between her slowest and fastest time)? (1 Mark) Based on her fastest time, did she meet the Olympic qualifying mark? ( 2 Marks) The coach states that consistency is key. Is the athlete consistent? Calculate the range and explain what a small range implies about an athlete's performance. Case Study 2: The Community Garden Project A community is planning a rectangular garden on a plot of land that is 10.5 meters long. They want to plant rows of vegetables with specific spacing. (1Mark) They decide to leave a 0.5 m path at each of the two ends. What is the remaining usable length for planting? ( 1 Mark) If they plant the first row 0.25 m from the start of the usable length, how far is this point from the absolute end of the plot? ( 1 Mark) A packet of seeds costs ₹50.75. What is the total cost for 4 packets? ( 2 Marks) The plan is to have 5 rows of plants with a 1.5 m space between each row. Will the usable length be sufficient for this plan? (Hint: 5 rows will have 4 spaces in between). Show your calculation and explain. Case Study 3: The Online Shopping Cart A customer is buying items online. The cart contains a book for ₹499.50 and a pen for ₹85.00. The website offers a discount coupon of ₹125.25. Shipping is free for orders above ₹500 after discount. This is good because it's predictable, but she is consistently just outside the qualifying time. Case 2: 1) 10.5" " m-(2×0.5" " m)=9.5" " m. 2)0.5" " m( path )+0.25" " m (planting distance) =0.75" " m from the absolute end. 3) ₹ 50.75×4= ₹203.00. 4) 4 spaces ×1.5" " m/space=6.0" " m. Yes, the 9.5 m usable length is sufficient for the 6.0 m of spacing required. Case 3: 1) ₹499.50 + ₹85.00 = ₹584.50. 2) ₹584.50 - ₹125.25 = ₹459.25. 3) No, because her order total after discount (₹459.25) is below ₹500. 4) New total before discount: ₹584.50 + ₹20.50 = ₹605.00. After discount: ₹605.00 - ₹125.25 = ₹479.75. No, she will still have to pay for shipping.
