Question 1 - Page 61 (a) How many thousandths make one unit? (b) How many thousandths make one tenth? (c) How many thousandths make one hundredth? (d) How many tenths make one ten? (e) How many hundredths make one ten? Let’s answer this one by one How many thousandths make one unit? Thousandth = 1/1000 Since, 1000 × 1/1000 = 1 ∴ 1000 Thousandths make one unit (b) How many thousandths make one tenth? Thousandth = 1/1000 To make one tenth, we need to have one zero in denominator So, multiplying with 100 100 × 1/1000 = 1/10 ∴ 1000 Thousandths make one tenth (c) How many thousandths make one hundredth? Thousandth = 1/1000 To make one hundredth, we need to have two zeroes in denominator So, multiplying with 10 10 × 1/1000 = 1/100 ∴ 10 Thousandths make one hundredth (d) How many tenths make one ten? Tenths = 1/10 To make one ten (i.e. 10), we need to have one zero in numerator So, multiplying with 100 100 × 1/10 = 10 ∴ 100 tenths make one ten (e) How many hundredths make one ten? Hundredth = 1/100 To make one ten (i.e. 10), we need to have one zero in numerator So, multiplying with 1000 1000 × 1/1000 = 10 ∴ 1000 Hundredths make one hundredth
