Ex 4.3 ,3 Find the roots of the following equations: (i) x ā 1/š„=3,š„ā 0 x ā 1/š„=3 (š„(š„) ā 1 )/š„ = 3 (š„^2 ā 1 )/š„ = 3 x2 ā 1 = 3x x2 ā 3x ā 1 = 0 Comparing equation with ax2 + bx + c = 0 So, a = 1, b = ā3, c = ā1 We know that D = b2 ā 4ac D = ( ā3)2 ā 4Ć1Ćā1 D = 9 + 4 D = 13 Hence, roots to equation are given by x = (ā š ± āš·)/2š Putting values x = (ā (ā 3) ± ā13)/(2 Ć 1) x = (3 ± ā13)/2 Hence, roots to equation are x = (3 + ā13)/2 or x = (3 ā ā13)/2
