Which of the following substances will not give carbon dioxide on treatment with dilute acid?

(A) Marble

(B) Limestone

(C) Baking soda

Marble. Limestone and baking soda have metal carbonates in them and therefore, on treatment with dilute acid, they will produce CO 2 gas. The reaction is given below:

 

However, lime i.e. Ca(OH) 2 will not produce CO 2 gas on reaction with acid.

 

So, the correct option is (d) Lime
