Example 3 Do 4/(−9) and (−16)/36 represent the same rational number? Here, we write both numbers in standard form. 𝟒/(−𝟗) 4/(−9) = (−4)/9 (−𝟏𝟔)/𝟑𝟔 (−16)/36 = (−16)/36 = (−8)/18 = (−4)/9 Since both numbers are (−4)/9 They are same.
