  • Penicillin was discovered in 1928 by Alexander Fleming in London.
  • He noticed a mould on a petri dish stopped bacteria from growing.
  • The mould released a substance that killed the bacteria.
  • This chance discovery gave us penicillin, the first antibiotic.
