Ex 3.4, 2 Find three distinct rational numbers that lie strictly between (−1)/2 and 1/4. Since numbers don’t have the same denominator We make denominator same Now, Common denominator = LCM of 2 & 4 = 4 So, our numbers with same denominator are (−1)/2 = (−1)/2 × 2/2 & 𝟏/𝟒 So, now we need to find 3 rational numbers between (−2)/4 and 1/4 Since have to find 3 rational numbers, we multiply the numbers by 𝟒/𝟒 (−2)/4 = (−2)/4 × 4/4 & 1/4 = 1/4 × 4/4 Thus, 3 Rational numbers between (−1)/2 and 1/4 are (−𝟕)/𝟏𝟔 , (−𝟔)/𝟏𝟔 , (−𝟓)/𝟏𝟔
