What you need:

  • Food pyramid (Fig. 6.8)
  • Chart paper
  • Coloured pens

What to do:

  • Step 1: Study the food pyramid showing different food groups
  • Step 2: Plan breakfast, lunch, dinner for one day
  • Step 3: Include foods from each section of pyramid
  • Step 4: Prepare a chart showing foods in each group

Observations

What you see:

  • Food pyramid has different levels for different food groups
  • Base level contains grains and cereals (largest portion)
  • Second level has fruits and vegetables
  • Third level includes proteins like meat , fish , pulses
  • Top level has fats and oils (smallest portion)

Why this happens:

We have studied that balanced diet contains all nutrients in proper amounts . This is why food pyramid shows larger portions of grains and smaller portions of fats .

  • Body needs more energy from carbohydrates
  • Vitamins and minerals come from fruits and vegetables
  • Proteins help in growth and repair
  • Fats provide energy but in small amounts
