Example 5 Let us use the above rule to find the product of 5.8 and 1.24. Now, Multiplying without decimals: 58 × 124 = 7192 Count decimal places: 1 (in 5.8) + 2 (in 1.24) = 3 total places Place the decimal 3 spots from the right: 7.192 Thus, answer is 7.192
