Decimal MultiplicationWhile multiplying decimals We multiply without decimals We count number of decimals on left side Number of decimals on right side = Sum of number of decimals on left side Let’s take some examples 2.83 × 4 Since 283 × 4 = 1132 2 decimal points 0 decimal points 2 + 0 = 2 decimal points 2.83 × 4 = 11.32 Let’s do more examples 2.3 × 4.5 Now, Multiplying without decimals: 23 × 45 = 1035 Count decimal places: 1 (in 2.3) + 1 (in 4.5) = 2 total places Place the decimal 2 spots from the right: 10.35 Thus, answer is 10.35 6.7 × 100 Now, Multiplying without decimals: 67 × 100 = 6700 Count decimal places: 1 (in 6.7) + 0 (in 100) = 1 total places Place the decimal 1 spot from the right: 670.0 Thus, answer is 670.0 or 670 0.008 × 10 Now, Multiplying without decimals: 8 × 10 = 80 Count decimal places: 3 (in 0.008) + 0 (in 10) = 3 total places Place the decimal 3 spots from the right: 0.080 Thus, answer is 0.080 or 0.08 0.2 × 0.4 Now, Multiplying without decimals: 2 × 4 = 8 Count decimal places: 1 (in 0.2) + 1 (in 0.4) = 2 total places Place the decimal 2 spots from the right: 0.08 Thus, answer is 0.08
