Decimal Addition and SubtractionTo add decimals, First we convert them into fractions and then we cannot the final fraction into decimal Let’s take an example Add 0.08 + 9.831 + 0.8956 0.08 + 9.831 + 0.8956 = 008/100 + 9831/1000 + 08956/10000 = 8/100 + 9831/1000 + 8956/10000 = 8/100 × 100/100 + 9831/1000 × 10/10 + 8956/10000 = 800/10000 + 98310/10000 + 8956/10000 = (800 + 98310 + 8956)/10000 = (98310 + 8956 + 800)/10000 = 108066/10000 = 10.8066 Add 49.59 + 53. 481 + 1000.003 49.59 + 53.481 + 1000.003 = 4959/100 + 53481/1000 + 1000003/1000 = (4959 )/100 × 10/10 + 53481/1000 + 1000003/1000 = (49590 )/1000 + 53481/1000 + 1000003/1000 = (49540 + 53481 + 1000003)/1000 = (1000003 + 49590 + 53481)/1000 = 1103074/1000 = 1103.074 Subtraction of Decimal NumbersTo subtract decimal, first we convert them into fractions and then we convert the final fraction into decimal. Subtract 2.76 from 3.8 2.76 from 3.8 3.8 – 2.76 = 38/10 − 276/100 = 38/10 × 10/10 − 276/100 = 𝟑𝟖𝟎/𝟏𝟎𝟎 − 𝟐𝟕𝟔/𝟏𝟎𝟎 = ((380 − 276))/100 = 104/100 = 1.04 Subtract 9.398 from 34.65 9.398 from 34.65 34.65 – 9.398 = 3465/100 − 9398/1000 = 3465/100 × 10/10 − 9398/1000 = 𝟑𝟒𝟔𝟓𝟎/𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 − 𝟗𝟑𝟗𝟖/𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 = ((34650 − 9398))/1000 = 25252/1000 = 25.252
