Question 13 Given that (– 548) × 972 = – 532656, write the values of: (a) (– 547) × 972 (b) (– 548) × 971 (c) (– 547) × 971Given (−548) × 972=−532656 (a) (−𝟓𝟒𝟕) × 𝟗𝟕𝟐 -547 is " 1 more" than -548 . This means we have 1 extra group of 972 . Add 972 to the original answer: So, our answer is −532656+972=−𝟓𝟑𝟏𝟔𝟖𝟒 (b) (−𝟓𝟒𝟖) × 𝟗𝟕𝟏 Given (−548) × 972=−532656 971 is " 1 less" than 972 . This means we have 1 less group of -548 . Subtract (−548) from the original answer (which is the same as adding 548): So, our answer is −532656−(−548)=−532656+548=−𝟓𝟑𝟐𝟏𝟎𝟖 (c) (−𝟓𝟒𝟕) × 𝟗𝟕𝟏 Given (−548) × 972=−532656 Take the answer from part (a) ( -531684 ) and remove one group of -547 . Subtract (−547) (same as adding 547): So, our answer is −531684+547=−𝟓𝟑𝟏𝟏𝟑𝟕
