Question 8 Imagine you’re in a place where the temperature drops by 5°C each hour. If the temperature is currently at 8°C, write an expression which denotes the temperature after 4 hours.Initial temperature = 8°C Room temperature decreases at 5°C per hour ∴ Temperature change in 1 hour = −5°C Temperature change in 4 hours = −5 × 4 = −20°C ∴ Temperature after 4 hours = Initial temperature + Temperature change in 4 hours = 8 + (−20) = 8 – 20 = –20 + 8 = – (20 – 8) = −12°C Thus, temperature after 4 hours is −12°C
