Question 1 - Figure it out (Page 31) Using the token interpretation, find the values of: (a) 3 × (– 2)Here, First number is 3 (Positive): This means we "Put in” Second number is -2 (Red tokens): We are using groups of 2 red tokens. Put 2 red tokens into the bag, 3 times. Thus, we have 6 red tokens in the bag. Answer is –6 Question 1 - Figure it out (Page 31) Using the token interpretation, find the values of: (b) (– 5) × (– 2)Here, First number is -5 (Negative): This means we must REMOVE tokens. Second number is –2 (Red tokens): We need to remove 2 red tokens from each group We add 5 groups of Zero pairs to the bag Here, First number is -5 (Negative): This means we must REMOVE tokens. Second number is –2 (Red tokens): We need to remove 2 red tokens from each group We add 5 groups of Zero pairs to the bag Take out 2 Red tokens from each group Leftover: We are left 10 green tokens Answer is +10 Question 1 - Figure it out (Page 31) Using the token interpretation, find the values of: (c) (– 4) × (– 1)Here, First number is -4 (Negative): This means we must REMOVE tokens. Second number is –1 (Red tokens): We need to remove 1 red token from each group We add 4 groups of Zero pairs to the bag Take out 1 Red token from each group Leftover: We are left 4 green tokens Answer is +4 Question 1 - Figure it out (Page 31) Using the token interpretation, find the values of: (d) (– 7) × 3Here, First number is -7 (Negative): This means we must REMOVE tokens.
