Question 3 Find the multiple of 9 that is closest to the number 6000.Let's divide 6000 by 9 to see how close we are. The sum of digits of 6000 is 6. To be divisible by 9, we need the sum to be 9 (or 0). Option A (Go up): We need to add 3 to the sum (6+3 = 9). So, 6003. Check: 6 + 0 + 0 + 3 = 9. This works. It is 3 steps away from 6000. Option B (Go down): We need to take away the remainder 6 So, 5994 Check: 5+9+9+4=27. This works. It is 6 steps away from 6000. Since 3 steps is closer than 6 steps, the answer is 6003.
