Question 1 The sum of four consecutive numbers is 34. What are these numbers?Let the smallest number be x Thus, the four consecutive numbers are x, x + 1, x + 2, x + 3 Now, Sum of the four consecutive numbers = 34 x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) + (x + 3) = 34 (x + x + x + x) + (1 + 2 + 3) = 34 4x + 6 = 34 4x = 34 – 6 4x = 28 x = 28/4 x = 7 Thus, the four consecutive numbers are 7, 8, 9, 10
