Multiplying Egyptian NumeralsEgyptian Numerals are Powers of 10 Thus, we need to understand how Powers of 10 are Multiplied The Big Concept: Multiplication by Powers of 10 The key to understanding Egyptian multiplication is to remember that every "Landmark Number" is a power of 10. Rule: When you multiply two landmark numbers together, the result is always another landmark number (a bigger symbol). Think of it like adding zeros in our modern math: 10 × 10 = 100 (1 zero + 1 zero = 2 zeros) 100 × 100 = 10,000 (2 zeros + 2 zeros = 4 zeros) Let’s take some examples Multiply by ⋂ (10) Now, when we multiply by 10, The symbol goes one level up (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) Multiply by (100) Now, when we multiply by 100, The symbol goes two levels up (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (10 × 102 = 103) (102 × 102 = 104) (103 × 102 = 105) (104 × 102 = 106)
