Question 1 Compare the following numbers using the Building of Fun and fill in the boxes with < or >. a. –2 +5 b. –5 +4 c. –5 –3 d. +6 –6 e. 0 –4 f. 0 +4Let’s look at one by one a. –2 ▭ +5 Since positive numbers are always greater than negative numbers –2 < +5 b. –5 ▭ +4 Since positive numbers are always greater than negative numbers –5 < +4 c. –5 ▭ –3 Since both are negative numbers, we compare without negative sign Now, 5 > 3 Multiplying by –1 both sides If we multiply negative number, sign reverses 5 × –1 < 3 × –1 –5 < –3 d. +6 ▭ –6 Since positive numbers are always greater than negative numbers +6 > –6 e. 0 ▭ –4 Since zero is greater than all negative numbers 0 > –4 f. 0 ▭ +4 Since zero is smaller than all positive numbers 0 < +4
