Question 3 (a) In the figures below, what angles do x and y stand for? First of all, angle marked 65° is corrected in the figure In NCERT Book, the marking is wrong Now, from parallel red lines and blue transversal By alternate interior angles are equal ∠ y = Red angle Since ∠ x = Green angle ∠ x = 25° Now, On Red line, we do linear pair Red angle + Green angle = 180° Red angle + 25° = 180° Red angle = 180° – 25° Red angle = 155° Also, ∠ y = Red angle ∠ y = 155° And, vertically opposite angles are also equal ∠ x = Green angle Now, taking red lines as parallel and yellow line as transversal The 90° angle and (65° + green angle) are corresponding angles So, they must be equal 90° = 65° + Green Angle 90° – 65° = Green angle 25° = Green angle Green angle = 25°
