Chapter 3 Class 10 Linear Equations In Two Variables - Case Based Question Worksheet 1 by teachoo Chapter: Chapter 3 Class 10 Maths – Linear Equations in Two Variables Name: _____________________________ School: _____________________________ Roll Number: _____________________________ Case 1: Two schools 'P' and 'Q' decided to award prizes to their students for two games of Hockey Rs. x per student and Cricket Rs. y per student. School 'P' decided to award a total of Rs. 9,500 for the two games to 5 and 4 students respectively, while school ' Q ' decided to award Rs. 7,370 for the two games to 4 and 3 students respectively. (CBSE 2023) Based on the given information, answer the following questions. Represent the following information algebraically (in terms of x and y ). (a) What is the prize amount for hockey? OR (b) Prize amount on which game is more and by how much? What will be the total prize amount if there are 2 students each from two games? Case Study 2: Bookstore shopkeeper A bookstore shopkeeper gives books on rent for reading. He has a variety of books in his store related to fiction, stories, quizzes etc. He takes a fixed charge for the first two days and an additional charge for subsequent days Amruta paid ₹22 for a book and kept it for 6 days: while Radhika paid ₹16 for keeping the book for 4 days. Assume that the fixed charge is ₹ x and the additional charge (per day) is ₹ y. (CBSE 2021) Based on the above information, answer any four of the following questions. The situation of the amount paid by Radhika. Is algebraically represented by (a) x-4y=16 (b) x+4y=16 (c) x-2y=16 (d) x+2y=16 The situation of the amount paid by Amruta. Is algebraically represented by (a) x-2y=11 (b) x-2y=22 (c) x+4y=22 (d) x-4y=11 What are the fixed charges for a book? (a) ₹ 9 (b) ₹ 10 (c) ₹ 13 (d) ₹ 15 What are the additional charges for each subsequent day for a book? (a) ₹ 6 (b) ₹ 5 (c) ₹ 4 (d) ₹ 3 What is the total amount paid by both, if both of them have kept the book for 2 more days? (a) ₹ 35 (b) ₹ 52 (c) ₹ 50 (d) ₹ 58 Case Study 3: The Fitness Plan A gym offers two membership plans. Plan A: A one-time joining fee of ₹3000 and a monthly fee of ₹1000. Plan B: No joining fee, but a monthly fee of ₹1500. Let C be the total cost and m be the number of months. Write the linear equation for the total cost of Plan A. Write the linear equation for the total cost of Plan B. After how many months will the total cost of both plans be the same? What is that cost? If a person plans to use the gym for exactly one year, which plan is more economical? Explain your reasoning. " 4260 Case Study 2: (d) x+2y=16 (c) x+4y=22 (b) ₹ 10 (d) ₹ 3 (c) ₹ 50 Case Study 3: C=1000m+3000 C=1500" " m After 6 months. The cost will be ₹ 9000. Plan A is more economical. (Cost for 12 months: Plan A=₹15,000, Plan B=₹18,000 ).
