Chapter 6 Class 12 - Application of Derivatives - Assertion and Reasoning Worksheet 1 by teachoo Chapter: Chapter 6 Class 12 - Application of Derivatives Name: _____________________________ School: _____________________________ Roll Number: _____________________________ Instructions: For each question, two statements are given: Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Choose the correct option. (a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A. (b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A. (c) A is true, but R is false. (d) A is false, but R is true. Assertion (A): The function f(x)=e^x has no local maximum or minimum. Reason (R): The derivative of the function, f^' (x)=e^x, is never equal to zero. Assertion (A): A cylindrical can of a given volume has minimum surface area when its height is equal to its diameter. Reason (R): The second derivative of the surface area function with respect to the radius is positive at the critical point. Assertion (A): The function f(x)=sin(x) is increasing on the interval (0,π/2). Reason (R): The derivative, f^' (x)=cos(x), is positive for all x in the interval (0,π/2) Assertion (A): The function f(x)=x^2 is decreasing on the interval (-∞,0). Reason (R): The derivative f^' (x)=2x is negative for all x in the interval (-∞,0). Assertion (A): If the marginal revenue of a company is greater than its marginal cost, it should increase production. Reason (R): The rate of change of profit is positive when MR > MC.
